So I will start off with the positive. Aurora Colorado has a FREE special city funded taxi service for Seniors 60 and older. In partnership with RTD. Great to hear that tax payers dollars are helping our most vulnerable population. Respect your elders & take care of them. The service is FREE and seniors do not have to live in Aurora to take advantage of the service. The service only operates in Aurora. A lot of hospital facilities are in Aurora which makes it a hub for seniors getting essential health care. In Aurora Colorado there is large hospitals such as Kaiser, Health ACH 1, & UC Health (which I do not recommend). Their is also a lot of smaller hospital facilities and special practices. A service like this will be a great service. A lot of older people do not have to deal with the stresses of driving. Some have health problems and can not drive. You do not have to worry about getting in an accident because of all the horrible drivers in the city. If you have a loved one or neighbor who could really use the service please tell them about the service. My neighbor is in his 60’s and takes care of his mother who is 90 years old. I worry about them and hope they are safe when driving to their hospital appointments. I am going to tell them about the service. Should we fund more services for the elderly?
The flier for the Ward 3 meeting said that the day of meeting was January 14 2025 on a Tuesday. January 14 is on a Wednesday. Tuesday was January 13. The confusion probably caused some people to not show up. I text-ed Ruben Medina and he text-ed me back fast that it was today.
The battalion chief Justin Julian spoke about the Aurora Fire Department. Response times, 2 new fire stations opening soon, the remodeling & re-opening of station 9 and recruiting 35 new fire fighters. Well the response times suck. Not enough firefighters. Too many calls and chaos. Good news opening new fire stations. Trying to hire more. Apparently it is normal for people to have to pay to apply for the fire department. Pay to apply for a job? But Aurora needs workers and got funding. So you do not have to pay to apply for a job to be a fireman in Aurora. According to Justin that is going to attract firefighters from across the country. I do not know why? So people are going to spend a lot more money moving to another state because they do not have to pay an application fee? Sounds like some bullshit. Battalion chief just blowing smoke up our ass. He did speak about the realities of being a fireman like firemen having a high rate of cancer. Sadly 3 firemen got cancer in the department. They do risk their lives & health. Not surprising especially if your putting out a tech bro’s burning Tesla car emitting toxic fumes from burning lithium ion batteries.
Battalion chief talked about grass fires and emergency alerts. Fire season safety. A lady asked about the scheduled power outages during high fire risk times. Chief Battalion stated that because of the high winds during bad weather the possibility of a power line falling is more likely to happen. Thus causing the broken power line to start a grass or brush fire. Especially if the power line does not have a circuit breaker or some sort of sensing device to shut off the power. Which made me think wait not all of the power lines do not have safety features like circuit breakers. That is not good especially when my power bill keeps increasing. Glad to know that the money is going to the high level executives at Xcel Energy instead of being spent on preventing brush fires. I would gladly have my home set on fire so that the money I spent for electricity & gas can pay for a CEO’s yacht.
I asked a question that was burning in my mind (get it burning in my mind), because he mentioned emergency alerts & sirens. What the hell our all those sirens coming from the military base and what are those white dome things. He said that the domes were satellites and most of the time the sirens that go off were just being tested for emergencies. But the fire department has access to sirens off the military base & can use the sirens to alert Aurora of emergencies. The fire department can also use the sirens to make verbal announcements. Their is sirens around Aurora but I have not seen any. I have seen one in Green Valley Ranch at the fire station. Probably because no one will listen to them or take them seriously because they are always going off on the military base. Remember the children’s story, “The boy who cried wolf”. I wonder if they still teach that to kids. I doubt it, Emerica down the drain. Battalion Chief Justin said if you hear a siren and want to know if it is a test or not. You should look outside, if you see clouds & its windy it is probably a tornado warning! See the video I posted on my social media links below & on my website. I can’t make this shit up, reality is stranger than fiction.
I then brought up the last time we had tornadoes in Denver Metro in May 2025 or to the real locals land spouts (I got schooled by a local). I was working at my job. At a shit hole food distribution warehouse called “Shamrock Foods” in east Aurora near Piccadilly Road & E 26th ave Pkwy. 5 tornadoes occurred in the Denver metro area in May 2025 one was in Bennett Colorado & destroyed some homes. It was 20 miles east of the warehouse where I was working & clearly visible from DIA airport. It also canceled flights from the airport. Yet their was no sirens used to warn the public! No alerts went off on my phone or my fellow employees phones. I dont have a local zip code phone number, but I know some of my co-workers are locals with 720 area codes. Shamrock Foods Company did not inform any of the employees that a tornado was nearby. I read online there is usually an alert for a 30 mile radius from the location of the tornado. If I was informed that a tornado was nearby, I would have left immediately. I am pretty sure my job would not allow employees to leave because that company does not care about the safety of their employees. A lot of people get hurt on the job at shamrock foods.
I did some research on the internet & ended up on Reddit, someone said “The lack of or possible elimination of alerts has been a concern since February. Elon and DOGE made major cuts to the personnel of the National Weather Service (NWS) and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) a while ago.” Fact checked it and yeah the federal government monitors & helps alert the public about extreme weather conditions. Bad news the federal government cut funding. I verified the info in May 2025 but do not know the current status of the funding situation.
But according to the battalion chief & Ruben Medina. The city of Aurora & the Aurora fire department have access to the sirens & alert system. The city at the local level is supposed to do some weather monitoring to protect the public from natural disasters. Makes sense. I have video recording of the battalion chief stating this on video. See the links to my social media channels below. We can not always rely on the federal level. But unfortunately the alert system does not always work and is not reliable. The system is outdated and the city is not fixing it. I guess our city officials will just wait until a major disaster occurs taking lives & injuring people. Then that will give them incentive to repair or upgrade the warning system. That is unfortunately what most cities do. Think California fires, Hurricane Katrina, East Palestine, Ohio train derailment, etc. So if a tornado is going towards people going to kill them in Aurora. They may not know it is going to happen. The city of Aurora did have a cell phone application that people could install on their phone for emergency alerts. City Council member Ruben Medina said that the cell phone Application got hacked and they never fixed it. WOW Ignorance is bliss brought to you by the city of Aurora. If a land spout occurs in Aurora AKA tornado and people complain that they were never warned. Do not say I did not warn you.
The city forestry superintendent Gopal Ghimire talked about the invasive Emerald Ash Borer beetle killing ash trees. In my opinion the color of the beetle is similar to a june bug. Long story short ash trees are going to be extinct in Denver metro. The only Ash trees that will survive are the trees that are chemically treated. You have to treat a tree every two years to protect it & it is expensive to do so because Gopal said you should get a arborist or tree service company to apply the chemical. Like everyone has money in their pocket to pay for that (sarcasm). The city of Aurora stopped planting ash trees. You can buy the pesticide at Home Depot. According to Gopal the only predator the beetle has is a woodpecker. But Gopal said that woodpeckers used as a control method would only be useful in a non urban setting. After the engineer did what most engineers do which is kill most of the people in the room by the term “death by power point”. Talking about trees lead to a current tree related Aurora city code controversy that would cost a home owner a lot of money.
Currently there is a code where if you cut a tree on your property you have to replace it with a tree that has the same trunk diameter! So if you have a tree with a big trunk you have to replace it with the same size. A large tree can cost thousands and even tens of thousands of dollars. If it is an ash tree that dies because of invasive beetles. You have to pay to replace it. The beetles & the city code are going to make people bankrupt. Ruben Medina stated that there is a large tree on the side of his house and he wants to cut it because it will eventually fall on his house. Most homeowners have small properties. Two of my family members have had trees destroy water & sewer lines in front of their homes costing thousands of dollars. So if your a home owner who has to cut a large tree that destroys your sewer line. You are going to have to pay for the damaged sewer line & a new tree. If your a senior who owns your own home, retired living off a fixed income you are probably not going to being able to afford it. But at least the city offers a free taxi service to seniors. Yep millennial home ownership is definitely not in our future. Home sellers are definitely NOT going to tell buyers about the Aurora “Tree Ordinance”. Remember before you buy a house make sure it does not have a tree. If it does check the water & sewer lines.
Also the lady name “Chance” from the Havana Business district spoke about what business were opening and closing on Havana. A high end gym was going to open up. Some car wash was going to close down and a Dunkin Donuts is going to open. Great we need more options to get diabetes & utilize the health care facilities nearby for dialysis. Remember after your workout that you deserve a doughnut as a reward prize. Chance did complain to the city forester that some businesses got fined for cutting trees on their property. Also replacing a large tree can cost up to 10,000 dollars. Apparently the business district on Havana gets millions of dollars to improve it. Does Havana look better since the Havana business improvement district was created? Email me to let me know.
